Eligibility
M.Tech programmes
-Departments of Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering: B.E/B.Tech in
respective branch of Engineering; or equivalent AMIE (I), AMIIChE, etc. with two years
of professional experience
-Department of Computer Science and Engineering: B.E./B.Tech in CSE, Information
Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering; or equivalent AMIE (I) in respective
branch with two years of professional experience.
-Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering:(i) Specialization in
Telecommunication Engineering; B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree in ECE (ii) Specialization
in Microelectronics and VLSI; B.E./ B.Tech. or equivalent degree in ECE/CSE/EE/ Electronics
and Instrumentation Engineering (iii) Department of Information Technology; B.E./B.Tech
in IT/CSE/ECE/EE or Instrumentation Engineering (iv) Department of Metallurgical and Materials
Engineering; (i) Specialization in Materials Engineering; BE/B.Tech. in Metallurgical and
Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and M.Sc in applied physics; or equivalent AMIE (I),
AMIIM, etc. with two years of professional experience (ii) Specialization in Industrial Metallurgy;
B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and
Production Engineering; or equivalent AMIE (I), AMIIM, etc. with two years of professional experience.
-Department of Chemistry (Corrosion Science and Technology: M.Sc. in Chemistry
Pure/applied) or BE/ B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering; or AIC (I) with two years of
professional experience.
-Department of Physics (Advanced Materials Science and Technology): M.Sc in
Physics/Applied Physics/Electronics or BE/B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering/
Materials Engineering/Electronics and Communication Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/
Electronics Engineering/Instrumentation Engineering with at least 55% marks or equivalent
grade.
-Department of Mathematics (Operation Research): Degree in any branch of Engineering/
Technology/MCA/M.Sc or equivalent AMIE (I), IIM (I), etc with two years of professional
experience with Mathematics in graduation level.
-Department of Biotechnology: B.Tech degree in Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/Biochemical
Engineering/Food Technology/Chemical Engineering/Pharmacy having 65% marks from any recognized
University/ Institute.
-Department of Geology (coordinating department for Environmental Science and
Technology): B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical/Civil/Mechanical/Metallurgical/Biotechnology/
Leather Tech/Food Tech/Environmental/Pharmacy/Agricultural/Mining/Biochemical Engineering
with 60% marks; M.Sc in Environmental Science/Chemistry/Physics/Geology/Bio-sciences/
Agricultural Science with 55% marks with Mathematics as one of the subject at least up to
Higher Secondary level (10+2 Examination.
- M.Sc Programmes: Three-year regular B.Sc (Hons/pass) with minimum 55% marks
in the relevant subject. A candidate who is not able to produce the final marks sheet
of B.Sc. examination at the time of interview, will not be considered.
Application checklist:
The completed application must accompany the following documents;
- attested copy of GATE score card;
- attested copy of marks sheet/Grade card of the qualifying examination;
- attested copy of proof of date of birth; attested copy of community certificate
in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar);
- attested copy of community certificate in case of OBC candidates from a competent authority
(not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating the status regarding creamy layer;
- original sponsorship certificate and experience certificate in case of sponsored candidates;
- original no-objection certificate from the employer in case of part-time candidates;
- demand draft towards the application fee in case of downloaded forms; application without copies
of testimonials is liable to be rejected
Admission procedure for M.Tech and M.Sc programmes
M.Tech: -GATE-qualified candidates will be given preference for admission to
full-time M.Tech programmes.
- Full-Time GATE-qualified candidates:
70% weightage on GATE score and 30% weightage on viva-voce;
which will conducted at the respective departments at NIT, Durgapur.
-Sponsored candidates:
must have a minimum of two years full-time work experience in a
registered firm/company/Industry/educational or research institutions/any govt autonomous
organizations in the relevant field in which admission is being sought. A letter from the employer
must be furnished along with the application stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission.
The Employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway till the completion
of the programme and will not claim for a job through campus interview at NIT Durgapur
-In case of non-availability of enough number of GATE-qualified candidates, the resulting
vacant seats will be filled with non-GATE candidates strictly based on merit through
a written test followed by viva-voce.
-Full Time non-GATE, Full-Time Sponsored and Part-time candidates:
30% weightage on written test, 40% weightage on viva-voce in respective
departments at NIT, Durgapur and 30% weightage on percentage of marks/CGPA obtained
in the last qualifying examination
- Sponsored candidates:
must have a minimum of two years full-time work experience in a registered firm/
company/Industry/educational or research institutions/any govt autonomous organizations
in the relevant field in which admission is being sought. A letter from the employer
must be furnished along with the application stating that the candidate is being sponsored
to get admission. The Employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be
withdrawn midway till the completion of the programme and will not claim for a job through
campus interview at NIT Durgapur.
A no-objection Certificate from the employer is essential for admission to M.Tech
programme for a part-time candidate and their working place must be within 15 km from NIT, Durgapur
